A brief history of the aircraft type and the airline is supplied with each model.

The Douglas DC-3 (DC – Douglas Commercial) is considered by many as the aircraft that revolutionized commercial air travel in the 20th Century. The maiden flight of the DC-3 took place on December 17, 1935, the 32nd anniversary of the Wright Brother's historic flight at Kitty Hawk.
Now airlines were able to be profitable without depending on U.S. Mail subsidies and passengers could now fly transcontinental with just one re-fueling stop. There are many DC-3s still flying 75 years after their maiden flights.

CF-CPY was manufactured by Douglas as a C-47 BuNo. 41-18540 and delivered to the USAAF on August 28 1942, loaned to the Soviet Air Force for a few months. It arrived with the 10th AF in India in April 1943 and in June 1943 was involved in a mid-air accident causing severe damage writing it off. The aircraft was bought and repaired and on December 11, 1945 was registered as CF-CPY with Canadian Pacific Airlines as # 175. The aircraft now sits on a pedestal in
Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada as the "World's Largest Wind Vane".
