Product description

At the end of the 1960s, the Spanish Air Force was looking for a replacement for the transport aircraft still in use, the oldest of which were the three-engined Ju-52s from the 1930s. Prepared requirements for a new transport multi-purpose aircraft. CASA responded by designing a twin-engine turboprop high-wing aircraft with fixed landing gear and STOL characteristics. The project named CASA C.212 Aviocar was accepted and its production started in Spain and licensed in Indonesia. First, versions with a short hull, differing in engine variants, were produced. Later production switched to the C.212-300 with an extended nose, winglet wing, TPE331-10R-513C engines again with increased power and different propellers. Since 1998, the C.212-400 version has been produced with TPE331-12JR-701C engines with upgraded avionics and increased payload.
The C.212 can be said to fly on all continents. It is not even possible to list civilian users. As part of the military air force, C.212s fly in North America, the USA (C-41), in Mexico, in Central and South America, for example in Panama, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia or Argentina. Users in Europe were or are Sweden, Spain, Portugal, France and Malta. In Africa, C.212s fly from the north to the very south, users are or were Chad, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and other countries. Australia uses its C.212 at home for Red Beret training, and as part of The Australian Antarctic Division of the Department of the Environment, they operate C.212s in Antarctica. In Asia, the C.212 flies in Indonesia, of course, but there are more users, for example Thailand, Vietnam or the Philippines.
The long-body CASA C.212 kit is offered by South African machine No.44 Sqn. SAAF, a Venezuelan machine flown by the Escuadrón Aeronaval de Patrullaje Marítimo and an Argentine machine in the colors of the Prefectura Naval (Coast Guard).
