Seafire

The Supermarine Seafire never matched the reputation rightly accorded its famous forebear, the Spitfire, but, despite its capricious deck-landing characteristics, it was a very important element in the Fleet Air Arm during the last years of World War II and in the early postwar years.

Like the Spitfire, the aircraft was developed through a succession of improving marks, and in its final Griffon-engine developments it vied with the Sea Fury and the Sea Hornet in being the fastest piston-powered fighter ever to have served with the Royal Navy.
