For aviation enthusiasts and fans of Ernest K. Gann this is a worthwhile read. The storyline is tame and a bit of a cliche by all of the modern mystery and adventure stories that have suceeded "Band of brothers". Still it is skillfully told and is in a way a time capsule of both the cold war era and the state of aviation during the start of the "jet age". Gann's characterizations of these aviation pioneers pays tribute to the human spirit as well as the adversity and challenges that the airline industry faced in the early days. We would recommend this work as a companion to "Fate is the Hunter".
