The Boeing C-17 Globemaster airlifter is an iconic aircraft. It is now the main strategic airlifter of the United States Air Force, Britain’s Royal Air Force, NATO’s Strategic Airlift Force, as well as the air forces of Qatar, India, Australia, Canada, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. The C-17 is modern day legend thanks to the central role it played in the Afghanistan evacuation operations of August 2021. In that frantic period that dominated nightly news programmes around the world, C-17s of several air forces flew more than 150,000 people out of Kabul in two weeks.
