Intra-Finnish air traffic began in 1937, when Aero Oy began flying to Vyborg and Tampere. In 1937–1938, Aero Oy acquired two British de Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide commercial aircraft for domestic air traffic, which were named Salama and Lapland in Finland. The planes were flown in Finland before the Second World War, when the flight route finally reached Petsamo. After the war years, Veljekset Karhumäki Oy's scheduled traffic began on the planes in 1950. After that, Salama and Lapland were still used by Savon Lentolinjat Oy and Lentohuolto Oy. Dragon Rapide is one of the most important aircraft types in the history of domestic aviation. This book reviews the development of de Havilland's aircraft in the 1930s, presents Dragon Rapide as an aircraft, and tells the story of the Finns Lightning and Lapland from the 1930s to the beginning of domestic air traffic in the post-Finnish years until the 1970s. The rich illustration of the book has been collected from the collections of museums and private individuals. Among several previously unpublished photos. The author of the book, Juha Klemettinen, is a non-fiction writer and aviation history enthusiast who has previously written Jet Age! on the transition to jet aircraft in commercial aviation in 1945-1960. He is also the editor-in-chief of the aviation history Phoenix magazine.
Suomen sisäinen lentoliikenne alkoi vuonna 1937, kun Aero Oy alkoi lentää Viipuriin ja Tampereelle. Aero Oy hankki vuosina 1937–1938 kotimaan lentoliikennettä varten kaksi brittiläistä de Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide -liikennelentokonetta, jotka saivat Suomessa nimet Salama ja Lappi. Koneilla lennettiin ennen toista maailmansotaa kotimaassa lentoreitin yltäessä lopulta Petsamoon saakka.
Sotavuosien jälkeen koneilla aloitettiin Veljekset Karhumäki Oy:n reittiliikenne vuonna 1950. Tämän jälkeen Salama ja Lappi olivat vielä Savon Lentolinjat Oy:n ja Lentohuolto Oy:n käytössä. Dragon Rapide on yksi tärkeimmistä lentokonetyypeistä kotimaan lentoliikenteen historiassa.
Tässä kirjassa käydään läpi de Havillandin liikennekoneiden kehitys 1930-luvulla, esitellään Dragon Rapiden lentokoneena sekä kerrotaan suomalaisten Salaman ja Lapin tarina 1930-luvulta kotimaan lentoliikenteen alusta Suomen jälkeisiin vuosiin aina 1970-luvulle saakka.
Kirjan runsas kuvitus on kerätty museoiden ja yksityishenkilöiden kokoelmista. Joukossa useita ennen julkaisemattomia valokuvia.
Kirjan kirjoittaja Juha Klemettinen on tietokirjailija ja ilmailuhistorian harrastaja, joka on kirjoittanut aikaisemmin Jet Age! -kirjan suihkukoneisiin siirtymisestä liikennelentämisessä vuosina 1945–1960. Hän päätoimittaa myös ilmailuhistoriallista Feeniks-aikakausilehteä.
