Your reliable Aviation Book Source since 1989
First flown at the end of 1947, little more than two years after World War Two, the Boeing B-47 Stratojet was the first swept-wing bomber to enter service with the US Air Force.
More than 2,000 were built (no other US post-war bomber was produced in greater numbers) and the type was operational with Strategic Air Command from the early 1950s, with some remaining on duty for almost 25 years.
Capable of delivering a nuclear punch it was in frontline service around the world, being used for secret spy missions over Soviet and Chinese airspace, as well as carrying the strategic deterrent.
Never easy to fly, it handled like a fighter and took American air power high in the sky where it was believed safe from enemy attack.
This bookazine tells the full story of this exciting aircraft, its design, construction and delivery.
Everything you wanted to know about the Stratojet, from routine bomber patrols and secret sky missions together with the memories of pilots who flew it, are all contained in this comprehensive title.
