By the end of July 1944, the Soviet advance westwards had reached the Baltic States. The Germans had a strong foothold in Courland, but when they lost control of Estonia, panic set in and the Germans began to retreat back to Germany and Poland. Fierce fighting broke out and large numbers of Balts began to cross the Baltic Sea to Sweden. Several of these arrived by aeroplane. One such aircraft was the Henschel Hs 126B-1, which landed at Herrvik on Gotland on 8 October. The aircraft was flown by two Latvians who were allowed to stay in Sweden. In the spring, the aircraft was bought by AB Nordisk Aero-tjänst in Norrköping. They intended to use it for target towing. There was a great demand for faster and more powerful machines for this task. After a major overhaul and repainting, it was to be test flown at Kungsängen. Unfortunately, it turned out that the aircraft shook heavily and they chose to land after only 20 minutes of flight. The propeller was warped and it was not possible to get a new one so it was decided to scrap the aircraft.
