Accepted by the U.S. Air Force in 1954, 53-3191 served first with the 317th Troop Carrier Wing in Germany, and moved between key bases in Europe, including RAF Burtonwood, Neubiberg Air Base, and Évreux-Fauville Air Base. After years of service, '3191 transitioned to the Air Force Reserve at General William B. Mitchell in Wisconsin. In 1967, it was sent to the AMARG in Tucson, Arizona, where it awaited its fate.
In 2022, MotoArt acquired the original fuselage of 53-3191. They overcame challenges like rattlesnakes and the Arizona heat to preserve the skins before the aircraft was scrapped for good. In early 2023, some of the fuselage was upcycled into our mobile airshow display (many of you have seen). The remaining portions were transformed into PlaneTags in 2024, preserving the aircraft's legacy for airshow and PlaneTags enthusiasts alike.
Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history with C-119 Flying Boxcar PlaneTags, crafted from the genuine skin of 53-3191. Get yours today!
