English and Polish text
Within six months, a group of young aircraft designers from Warsaw built and successfully flew the RWD-4 sports airplane, specifically designed to participate in the 1930 International Touring Aircraft Contest (Challenge 1930). The RWD-4 was the first Polish sports airplane to be mass-produced, with a series of nine aircraft constructed by the DWL (Do?wiadczalne Warsztaty Lotnicze). It was used by the Warsaw, Kraków, Pozna?, Silesian, and Lwów aeroclubs.
Dozens of photographs, including several published for the first time, along with 1/48 scale technical drawings and profiles of all produced RWD-4 models, will allow readers to delve deeper into the differences between each aircraft. A few period "nuggets" discovered by the author will shed new light on the history of Polish sport aviation in the 1930s. Through their numerous participations in national and international competitions, the RWD-4 and its crews effectively promoted Polish aviation.
