Product description

About the most ugly plane evere developed by Frits Koolhoven. The prototype flew likewise,

Design of a Koolhoven high-performance aircraft first started late in 1937. The result, finished in early 1938 was the F.K.55, a single-seat fighter of radical design with contra-rotating propellers and an engine housed behind the pilot. It had initially been proposed to do away with ailerons on the wings, and replace them with "slot-spoilers" for lateral control, however this idea was abandoned early in the project.

Of mixed metal and wood construction with wooden wings, the F.K.55's front fuselage was made of steel tube while wood formed the tail and rear fuselage. Its 640 kW (860 hp) Lorraine Pétrel engine afforded only just enough power to take off and to stay in flight. The production version would have used the more powerful 900 kW (1,200 hp) Lorraine 12R Sterna engine but this never happened.

Story goes that when the test pilot landed the craft on its single flight ont june 30 1938 which only lasted 2 minutes he climbed from the heavily overheated cockpit and walked away with a roasted but (the engine was behind him) muttering that he would never fly this thing ever again.

The prototype, along with Frits Koolhoven's factory and all his dreams  was bombed on May 14th by the Luftwaffe sending the FK55 permanently into aviation history.

But, a prototype flew and it mock up was a sensation at the Paris Salon of 1936 so it did exist!

The full Resin kit with some Plastic rod and messing detail parts and Decals is now in progress.

Elaborate instructions included.

Please note that this is a labour of (Robs and mine) love and only about 30 kits will be made for resale. If the moulds can handle it we might make some more but when the moulds are gone it is over.
