Mind: this item is a decal sheet that serves to decorate a scalemodel. The scalemodel is not included and needs to be ordered separately.

Product description

This A7 sheet allows to reproduce (starting from kit FR0037 Potez 25 A2/B2 Lorraine) this  Swiss Potez 25 (with Hispano-Suiza engine but with a Lorraine-like cowling). Some Swiss Potez 25 have been fitted with skis, but you would have to transform the skis provided in the box, or scratchbuild them, if you want to build the kit in such a configuration. The main Potez 25 version in Switzerland was fitted with a Gnome&Rhône engine, but that's a different story (and kit), see History of the Swiss Potez 25, below

The available photos are not of the best quality, it seems the white crosses were applied directly on the wings (without the red disks). We nevertheless provided the full version with red disk.

History of the Swiss Potez 25:
The Swiss Air Force used three different types of Potez 25. Firstly, in 1927,  six Potez 25.28 A2s were delivered. Registered 851, 852, 853, 854, and 859, 860, these aircraft were powered by a 420 hp Gnome & Rhône Jupiter 9ab radial engine. They remained in service until 1940.

At the same time, Switzerland also acquired four Potez 25.29 A2s, fitted with a Hispano-Suiza 12 GB 500 hp W engine, but "with a Lorraine style cowling". These aircraft were registered 855 to 858. Another of the same type, registered 863, was acquired in 1931. On these aircraft, the original 2m2 tailplanes were replaced by the 2.44 m2 variant. Like their G&R stablemates, the Swiss Potez 25 Hispano served until 1940.

Finally, a series of six Jupiter-powered Potez 25s was acquired in 1931, but this time they were equipped with 460hp Cosmos Bristol 9 Abx Jupiter VIs, built under licence by Saurer in Switzerland (which gave them a slightly longer nose than the aircraft in the first series). From the outset, they were equipped with the large 2.44 m2 vertical stabilizer. Registered 861, 862, 864 to 867, they were withdrawn from service in 1940.

Some aircraft were fitted with skis in winter (see photo in building notice, page F2).
