From the early days of the Vietnam War in Feb'23 1965, the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing ("Wolfpack") was deployed at Thailand's Ubon base, the USAF's most forward facility. Charged with eliminating the MiG fighters which were shooting down F-105 bombers over North Vietnam, the unit, led by Colonel Robin Olds, devised "Operation Bolo." On January 2, 1967, by impersonating US bombers, the unit lured Vietnamese MiG-21s up and shot down seven of the brand-new fighters, which had only been supplied by the Soviets a few weeks earlier, in one day. By the time the "Wolfpack" switched to the newer F-4D, they had amassed 22 MiG kills.
Beautiful executed little kit! State of the art and beats Hasegawa K srs on every count except complexity!! But here you also need the Armament sets as this Phantom has no claws
The kit is made up of 150 parts in grey and clear injected plastic ; the canopies can be left open or closed. The various mods are taken into account. Three external fuel tanks are offered (centerline and wing-carried), but in terms of weaponry, only the (very nice !) pylons are provided : AIM-9s and AIM-7s are to be purchased separately in Fine Molds kit FP39. Similarly, ejection seat belts are to be found separately on set NA10.
Pitot tubes are found in set AA52
