Product description

Arthur Mebius (NL) has been fascinated by airplanes throughout his life. Looking for a new photo project, he discovered that North Korea's 50, 60 and 70 aircraft still fly.

Air Koryo is the national airline of North Korea. International sanctions and environmental restrictions have drastically restricted the number of international destinations of this Airlines to China and Vladivostok. The ancient Antonovs, Ilyushin's and Tupolev's rarely fly across the border, and therefore seem unnecessary. Nevertheless, these planes and their crew are ready for departure. The domestic flights that happen occasionally are therefore important for pilots and flight attendants to practice and maintain their knowledge and skills.

Arthur Mebius looks at the routine operations of the crew, resembling an in-depth play about maintenance, control and procedure. A beautiful dance that raises a sense of dedication and pride.

The cartoon is enriched with historical events based fictional anecdotes, archival material, and technical information about the current North Korean fleet.
