A brief history of the aircraft type and the airline is supplied with each model.

WWII in Europe had only ended a few months earlier when Overseas Airlines introduced the first commercial North Atlantic DC-4 service. Another first took place on March 7, 1946 when American Airlines introduced U.S. DC-4 domestic service and converted C-54s carried more passengers than any other four-engine transport. Amazingly many of these aircraft are still operating more than 60 years after they were first manufactured.

Trans World Airline N45341 was manufactured as C-54E serial 44-9092 and converted to civil DC-4 standards for TWA and delivered to the airline in March 1946. The aircraft was delivered wearing the name Trans World Airline four years before it became the official corporate name. NC45341 was named "The Taj Mahal" and was the first TWA aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean wearing what would become the standard name in 1950. In 1957 the aircraft was sold to Jordan
International Airlines as JY-ABD.
