The outbreak of the Second World War on September 1, 1939 started a feverish procurement of equipment in Finland, and the winter war that started three months later accelerated them. In December 1939, an agreement was reached with the American Brewster for the purchase of 44 machines. The planes were late for the winter war, but for the first two years of the continuation war they dominated the airspace of Karelia and the Gulf of Finland. The type was clearly the best on both sides of the front, especially when experienced Finnish pilots were at the controls. Brewster somehow managed until the end of the war.
In this book, all the background information about the Brewster, technology and operational use, as well as abundant picture material from the eight years that the type was in use in the Finnish Air Force, have been collected in one cover. Completely new are the updated machine-specific histories for the entire service period.
The book contains plenty of first-hand accounts of fighter pilots, which have been published over the decades in their memoirs, as well as in combat accounts that come from the original documents of the War Archives. Other information also comes from these documents.
