The history of Cardinals begins with the creation of 1st Embarked Aviation Group in 1957 , the second year of the term of Juscelino Kubitschek . The first years of the new unit were difficult , marked by an acrimonious doctrinal conflict between the Air Force and Navy . However , since 1965 , the Cardinals embarked on the first aircraft carrier Minas Gerais to start a long period of 31 years of joint operations with high efficiency in a climate of harmonious coexistence that belied all the previous conflict .

In 1998 , the 1st Embarked Aviation Group was deactivated , giving rise to 4 ° / 7 ° Aviation Group which inherited its name and its traditions . Since then , operating from the historic Santa Cruz Air Base , the Cardinals protect the seas of Southeast and provide a service to the nation , as invaluable as little known .
