5th Fighter Aviation Regiment, deployed at the airport in LĂne near Pilsen, was shut down after more than forty years of existence in November 1991. As one of the few modern air units had direct roots in the famous Czechoslovak squadrons that fought alongside the allied forces in the battles of World War II on the Western Front. The regiment was the westernmost dislocated aviation department of the Czechoslovak People's Army. As a frontline Air Force Regiment performs tasks of air protection of the state border. Many of its pilots reached a high rank in the Army and the Air Force high official functions. The pictures and text in the book captures the rich history since 1945. Most of the materials that were saved during the liquidation of the department, is published for the first time.
