The 1960s were important for the 1st SLP especially because of the transition to the next generation of fighters of the MiG design bureau, in this case the MiG-21 and its versions. Throughout the period 1962-1970, the regiment was in the formation of the 3rd Air Defense Forces, or from 1969 the 3rd Air Defense Forces. In the spring of 1968, its members joined the revival process in Czechoslovak society, which was violently interrupted by the aggression of the Warsaw Pact states, led by the USSR. The consequence of this was, among other things, personnel purges, which took place in the form of cadre screenings in 1970, and on the basis of which at least 60 members of the regiment were released into the reserve, evidently most of them for political reasons. In the conditions of the upcoming so-called "normalization", the regiment continued to perform tasks in combat preparation and airspace protection.
