Around 200 Sabres were received by the Italian Air Force under the MDAP (Mutual Defense Assistance Program). They were used to form the 2nd and 4th Aerobrigata, which operated them as daytime fighters. But the Sabre is also remembered for being the aircraft flown by three aerobatic teams: "Cavallino Rampante," "Lanceri Neri," and notably, it was the first aircraft used by the 313th Aerobatic Training Group —t he legendary Frecce Tricolori. This monograph explores Sabre history, from its inception to its service in the Italian Air Force and aerobatic teams.
A final chapter is dedicated to building a 1/48 scale model of the F-86E.
