This aircraft received this special scheme to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Jagdbombergeschwader 34, based at Memmingen in the Allgäu region, from which it takes both its name and the colours inspired by the Alpine landscapes.
The special scheme carried by this Tornado 46+01 long remained particularly difficult to reproduce accurately on a scale model using “simple” decals alone. The decorated areas were both too large to be fully practical as decals, yet too intricate to be painted by hand. The precision offered by masks combined to the decals finally provides the ideal compromise needed to recreate this striking scheme properly — much to the delight of modellers.
