The long awaited MiG-21F in 48th scale is here. This marks a new beginning in Eduard’s line of Mikoyan delta jet kits, returning to the first generation of the legendary jet fighter. The intro into the new series that the Czech company is making is with a Limited Edition Box /#11190/ including goodies that won’t be found in the following releases that – without any doubt – will be many. The boxart is vivid, with camouflaged jet in the background and a silver arrow in the front. Streamlined, sleek, sexy!
The kit is just a baby still, which means that not everything that can be exploited from it can be found…Yet! Eduard are gonna explode with aftermarket from their line, but they are not going to be the only ones to do so. Wit that said, the simplicity of the MiG-21F is going to be a more or less limiting, but after all, that is where its beauty lies. You can expect improved cockpit and engine, probably external features related to the ground personnel. Who knows, maybe even more.
One thing we would like to mention here though is that we found an error that Eduard made. This – and correct us if we’re wrong – is not a proper MiG-21. Rather, the kit they are releasing is representing a license built copy of the original MiG, made in Czechoslovakia and actually labeled S-106. Aero made those jets and they feature slight differences externally, usually invisible for the untrained eye. But please note – the canopy of the original Soviet made MiG-21F continues backwards with a transparent piece, where in that section the S-106 has a fairing made out of metal. The difference is small, but for the modeler’s who are always keen on maximum realism, this is important. All the options included in the box seems to be of S-106, except one -“9903”.
