The Third Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group - Squadron Puma is the organization of the Brazilian Air Force which inherited by its historical origin , traditions and mission performed by the 1st ELO - 1st Squadron Liaison and Observation , which operated in the Theater of Operations Italy during the Second World War .
Founded in 1980 , the Unit is operationally subordinate to the Second Air Force presenting two distinct faces : humanitarian missions , whether in support of victims of natural or Search and Rescue ( SAR ) survivors of air disasters and accidents at sea , and special operations performing rescue downed airmen ( Combat SAR ) missions , and infiltration of commands using the flexibility that only rotorcraft possess.
