Founded in 1980 , the Unit is operationally subordinate to the Second Air Force presenting two distinct faces : humanitarian missions , whether in support of victims of natural or Search and Rescue ( SAR ) survivors of air disasters and accidents at sea , and special operations performing rescue downed airmen ( Combat SAR ) missions , and infiltration of commands using the flexibility that only rotorcraft possess.
