The EC665 Tiger is the main combat helicopter of the German and French armies. Competitor of Apache or Mangusta and although intended for the same role, it has its own line and an attractive camouflage for fans of helicopters.
Several model kit manufacturers became interested in the Tiger very soon after its first flight, Revell having drawn first in 1992. But if the models appeared, the documentation has always been limited except for photos of flight presentations of the helicopter during aeronautical meetings. An heavy walkaround was largely lacking in our documentation for modellers…
We asked for permission to make a full photographic covering of the French version EC 665 TIGER HAP and it was granted to us. So we were able to go to Le Luc en Provence, where the Franco-German Tiger training school with French and German versions of the helicopter is stationed. We have received from the staff all the help necessary to create a magnificent Walkaround, which is the first published. Since then, the Tiger has been deployed to Afghanistan, demonstrated high availability and efficiency during Operation Harmattan in Libya, and has fought in Somalia, Mali and the Central African Republic. Despite its numerous deployments, accidents have been fairly rare, even though, alas, in 2019 an air collision between a Tiger and a Cougar killed thirteen French Special Forces in Mali. Sold to Spain and Australia, the Tiger is still the subject of export prospects in several countries, and even for certain large contracts such as Mexico or Poland. The Tiger in its two main versions (HAP and UHT) needs to be developed to bring it to new standards of armament and power. The subject of this book remains mainly the EC665 Tiger HAP (Helicopter Support Protection), the most built of the Tiger and the one that has been the most deployed in combat, in Afghanistan and over Libya. With more than 300 detailed photos, complete decoration drawings, details of the weaponry carried and a list of all the models and accessories on the market about the Tiger, this book is the essential ressource for any modeler wishing to represent a scale model of the Tiger.
