The 8th Air Force was established in Savannah, Georgia as part of the USAAF shortly after the U.S. entered the War in January 1942. Along with British bombers the 15th Bombardment Group flew the first combat missions against targets in Europe on 4 July 1942. The targets were German airfields, the station at Rouen and later Wilhelmshaven. In mid-1944 the 8th Air Force totalled about 2000 heavy bombers, 1000 fighters and had a strength of about 200,000 men. The 8th Air Force played a major role in the fight for air supremacy over Europe and thus also the Allied victory Germany. This Set consists of the B-17G bomber and P-47D and P-51B Escort Fighters.
