William R. Chorley’s definitive record of Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War have been reprinted and are now presented in a larger format than previously. All nine volumes of this iconic work will be available in this series.
During the course of the Second World War, some 55,573 members of Royal Air Force Bomber Command became fatal casualties and a further 18,000 were wounded or became prisoners of war. This volume, which details 2,035 individual aircraft losses in the European Theatre of Operations during 1942, presents them in date order, together with the unit, aircraft type, serial, crew list, and the circumstances in which the loss occurred.
This volume also corrects a long-held misconception concerning the provenance of the squadrons that initially formed the Path Finder Force (PFF). Appendices are included which summarise the overall losses by squadron and group, and those sustained by the Operational Training Units and Conversion Flights, plus unit bases, escapers and evaders, prisoners of war and internees, as well as additions to volumes 1 and 2.
The meticulous research undertaken by the author in this classic work will be evident to historians and enthusiasts as well as to the relatives and friends of the airmen involved.
