Intended as a long-range strategic bomber the B-32 was in fact a fail-safe in case the development of the revolutionary Boeing B-29 Superfortress would run into insolvable problems.
In spite of many teething problems the B-29 finally went into production with the B-32 no longer needed. So it seemed, but although the B-32 had its teething problems, production was started before the end of the Second World War and it was even used operationally during the last months of the war against Japan.
