In addition to a meticulous description of the facts related to the history of this prestigious Luftwaffe squadron, this six-volume chronicle written over more than 20 years presents numerous testimonies of survivors or documents (such as letters, war diaries, etc.) written by pilots missing in action.
Taken together, they give a real and tragic, but also sometimes exalted, idea of what these twenty-year-old pilots went through. This chronicle also shows that even though they flew planes with different crosses or roundels, their concerns were similar to those of their opponents. Opponents who respected each other, it was not uncommon, in fact, to take off again at the end of the mission to try to locate the enemy shot down in the English Channel in order to send him help.
JG 2 bases: Beaumont-le-Roger, Bernay, Brest, Cherbourg, Octeville, Théville, Couvron, St. Quentin, Signy, Evreux, Cézanne, Calais, Oye, Monceau St Vaast, Saint Pol / Brias, Ligescourt, Conches, Creil, Baron, Fontenay-Le-Comte... and many more.
