Product description

311 (Czechoslovak) Squadron was formed in the summer of 1940 when our great country was in a life-and-death struggle for survival. Being the only Czechoslovak squadron to serve in R.A.F Bomber Command makes the exploits of this squadron unique.
The crews successfully operated their twin-engine Vickers Wellington over France, Germany and Italy between 1940 and 1942. With the success came the inevitable heavy personnel losses, which were increasingly difficult to replenish.
This book explores the operational history of the squadron during this time. Illustrated throughout with many rare black and white photographs, giving a fascinating insight into a squadron that gets little or no acknowledgement outside the former Czechoslovakia.

311 Squadron has a certain link with the Netherlends as one of their airctaf L7788 crashed near Leidschendam in September 1940 and the Dutch author Bart Rijnhout written the book "Het mysterie van L7788" about it

The Vickers Wellington with serial number L7788 and fuselage code KX-E of the Czech 311 Squadron that made a belly landing near Leidschendam in the early morning of 24 September 1940 after an attack on Berlin. The slightly damaged aircraft was then repaired by the Germans, who then flew the bomber to Schiphol. The Wellington was later taken to Germany for further investigation. The Czech crew of the aircraft survived the crash landing, but one of the crew members, Sergeant Kunka, took his own life for fear of repercussions for his family in his homeland.

Lateron bart Rijhout followed with the book "'The sky is our Ocean"
