Product description

The GRU-7A ejection seat was a key component of the escape system in the F-14A and early F-14B variants of the iconic American fighter jet, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat. It was developed by Martin-Baker, a renowned British manufacturer specializing in ejection seat systems.

Basic Information:

  • Type: Rocket-assisted ejection seat

  • Manufacturer: Martin-Baker Aircraft Co. Ltd.

  • Aircraft: F-14A/B (Early)

  • Crew in F-14: 2 (Pilot and Radar Intercept Officer – RIO)

Key Features:

  1. Two-stage Ejection:

    • Rocket motor activates after the initial explosive charge fires.

    • Capable of safe ejection at zero altitude and zero airspeed (zero-zero capability).

  2. Synchronized Ejection:

    • Either crew member can initiate ejection; the system coordinates both seats to avoid collision.

    • Usually, the RIO is ejected first, then the pilot.

  3. Integrated Survival Kit:

    • Includes parachute, life support gear, oxygen system, radio, and survival equipment.

  4. Manual and Automatic Functions:

    • Automatic seat-man separation at the proper altitude.

    • Manual separation possible if needed.

Technical & Historical Notes:

  • GRU-7A evolved from earlier Martin-Baker designs and was customized for the F-14.

  • Later F-14B and F-14D models used newer seats like NACES.

  • Some safety concerns arose over time, prompting system upgrades.

Interesting Fact:

  • One seat could trigger the ejection of both crew members if needed, improving survival chances.

  • Both the pilot and RIO had access to the ejection handle—unlike in some other aircraft where only the pilot could initiate ejection.

What makes our product truly stand out?

  • Ultra-fine 3D print resolution, capturing minute details never before seen at this scale

  • Accurate seat proportions, harnesses, and survival pack layout

  • Designed to drop-fit into the GWH cockpit with minimal or no modifications

  • Printed using next-generation resin for sharp detail and durability

This is arguably the most accurate 1/72 GRU-7A ejection seat on the market today, offering an unmatched level of realism for modelers who demand museum-quality detail.
