Product description

Spanish Army Aviation 1965-2023: FAMET provides a complete account of the Spanish Army Airmobile Forces (FAMET), including its history since its creation in 1965 up until mid-2023, its helicopters, the units that fly them, their bases, weapons, crews, and technical personnel – all described in detail for the first time in the English language.

Specifically, Spanish Army Aviation outlines the circumstances in which the Spanish Army’s airmobile forces were created, along with the commanders and other personnel who staffed the new branch. The book also extensively reconstructs the intervention of FAMET in combat operations in the Spanish Sahara. It includes for the first time the details of all the FAMET operations in that territory up until its abandonment by Spain in December 1975. It also includes a detailed account of the branch's participation in international peace operations in Bosnia Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Mali. Reference is also made to FAMET's humanitarian aid missions, for example in Mozambique.

In addition, Spanish Army Aviation explains the identification systems, registration numbers, construction numbers, dates of service entry and dates of decommissioning for all platforms used by the branch, whether for technical reasons, accidents or because they have reached the end of their operational life. All this will enable the reader to identify each aircraft and its final destination. This book also includes the designations and other details of all the bases from which FAMET helicopters operate, as well as unique insights into the branch's training infrastructure.

True to the @War fashion, Spanish Army Aviation is richly illustrated, including many original photographs, as well as specially commissioned artworks of FAMET’s aircraft, past and present.
