The Kanalkampf taking place in July and early August 1940 saw a series of air engagements taking place mainly over the English Channel. Bf 109E pilots achieved locally limited air superiority in it. However, the original expectations were not fully fulfilled, although German fighters reported a number of successes and the number of kills significantly exceeded the range of losses of the Jagdwaffe. Fighter Command "did not cooperate" and its commander, Air Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, did not allow himself to be drawn into really large confrontations under the terms dictated by the German side. He was going to save his forces for actually launching an enemy air offensive. At the same time, the German fighters became convinced that the enemy's fighters surprisingly often appeared at the right time in the right place to counter the offensive operations of the Luftwaffe. AERO No. 103 continues the previous parts describing the Bf 109E AERO No. 60, 64, 98.Many interesting pictures of early Bf109E's as well as detailshots and technical drawings.
