The literally legendary Spanish Civil War aircraft included the Soviet single-fighter Polikarpov I-16. She became generally known under the infamous name attributed to her by the Spanish nationalists during this bloody conflict: Rata (rat). In the years 1935 and 1936, he could boldly aspire to the position of the state-of-the-art mass-produced fighter-type world. Until production stopped in 1942, an estimated 10,292 examples of all versions were produced, including the UTI-2 and UTI-4 exercises. Here we will deal with fighter variants serving from November 1936 to March 1939 on the Iberian Peninsula in the colors of the Spanish Republican Air Force. The Soviets delivered a total of 276 Polikarpov I-16s to Spain during the conflict.
